Visiting Colleges
Finding the College that Fits

Step 1 - Colleges Presentations at Huron

Check out the colleges visiting Huron, see calendar below!

The actual Admissions Representatives that will be reading your application take the time to visit Huron and meet the students. They present information about the schools they represent and can answer specific questions about the college and admissions process.

Most College Presentations are in the College and Career Resource Center. A few colleges (UM, MSU and EMU) are sometimes hosted in the Auditorium.

Check out the handouts and links below. . .
  • "Questions for College Reps and Visits" to get you started on questions to ask College Reps.

December - Historically Black Colleges & Universities, Held in Bellville
January - Gap Year Fair, Held at Skyline High School
March/April - Traditional College Fair (120+), Held at Pioneer High School
-
See Huron's Google Calendar and Facebook Page for specific Dates

Step 3 - Visit local colleges

It is always helpful to visit our local colleges to get a feel for what colleges have to offer. Think about the characteristics of a college in which you are interested. . . There is probably a college in our area that is similar. Check out the College websites for visit options and/or special presentation/open house days.
  • University of Michigan
  • Eastern Michigan Univsersity
  • Concordia College
  • Cleary University
  • Washtenaw Community College

If you like what you see and hear, then you can spend the money to travel to colleges a greater distance away.

Step 4 - Travel!

Most students visit colleges in the Spring of their Junior year when classes are still in session. Using Huron Mid-Winter Break and Spring Break allow student to get on the College Campus while classes are in session without missing too many of their own classes. Summer time is also a great time to visit Colleges.
