Local Scholarships

Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation Scholarships
Each year, AAACF Scholarship Funds award nearly 140 scholarships to local area students. Applications for Scholarships that use an online application unless otherwise noted. http://www.aaacf.org/.

We are pleased to announce that the Community Foundation has moved-up the launch of our online application portal open December 1, 2016 and the submission deadline to  March 14, 2017 @ 5 PM. The great news about the adjusted timeline is that students will receive scholarship decisions much sooner!

Scholarships that use a paper application:
    • Lynda Andrus Memorial Scholarship Fund - $500 award 
      For Eastern Michigan University nursing students.
    • Burt Black Memorial Fund - $500 & $1,000 awards
    • Supports three Burt Black Memorial Scholarship awards for students with disabilities at Huron High School, Washtenaw Community College & University of Michigan.
    • Mike Lapprich Memorial Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award
    • For graduating seniors on the Huron High School hockey team.
Scholarships that use the online application (go to Pre-Qualifying Questions first):
    • AWC Scholarship Fund for Women in Computing - Up to $1,000 award
      For female students studying technology and/or computing.
    • Ann Arbor Ad Club Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award
    • For Washtenaw County residents studying advertising, communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
    • Walter & Florence E. Aupperle Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award
      For German Studies students at U of M or EMU.
    • Morse B. Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund - $1,000-$1,500 award  
      For Washtenaw County residents attending Washtenaw Community College or Cleary University.
    • Community Financial Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award For Community Financial members.
    • Joseph & Yvonne Dulin Scholarship Fund - $250 award
      For graduating seniors at any Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor public school.
    • Starr D. Kohn, Ph.D, PE Memorial Scholarship Fund - $2,000 award For undergraduate students at U of M studying civil engineering.                
    • Kenneth W. Kramer, PE Memorial Scholarship Fund - $2,000 award
      For undergraduate or gradute students from the Ann Arbor or Plymouth area, including Washtenaw or Western Wayne County, studying civil engineering 
    • Richard & Grace P. Leslie Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award
      For Washtenaw Community College students studying retail or business.
    • Andrew J. Lum Scholar Athlete Award Fund - $1,000 award
      For graduating seniors from the Huron High School Varsity Huron Football team with a commitment to athletics and academics.                 
    • NAACP Community Leadership Scholarship Fund - $400-500 award 
    • For African-American graduating seniors from the Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti-Willow Run area.
    • NuStep Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award
      For NuStep employees' children, step-children, and grandchildren.
    • Josephine C. Otto Memorial Scholarship Fund - $1,000-$3,000 award - 
      For members of Dexter's St. Joseph Catholic Church.
    • Pipe Dream Fund - $2,000 award 
      For students attending U of M or EMU who are Polish nationals on a valid visa OR who have parents that are from Poland.
    • Silver Maples Employee Educational Fund - $1,400 award  For full or part-time employees of Silver Maples of Chelsea.
    • James K. Stringwell Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award
      Need-based scholarships for students graduating from public high schools in Washtenaw County who will be attending a public college or university in Michigan.
    • Trigon Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award For male undergraduate students at the University of Michigan. 
    • Welcome Home Scholarship Fund - $800 award For men and women returning home from active duty deployment in Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom and honorably discharged within the last three years. 

AAACF Scholarship Awards that do not have an application:
  • Robert Bruce Dunlap Memorial Awards Fund - $1,000 award
    For AnnArbor.com Young Citizen of the Year Finalists.
  • Andrew J. Lum & David R. Juillet Young Artist Scholarship Fund - $1,000 award
    For winner of the Ann Arbor Concert Band's Young Soloist Competition.
  • Paul K. & Fern L. Meyers Scholarship Award Fund - $530 award
    For recipients of the Paul K. Meyers Award at Huron High School.
  • Joan Bauer Scheel Valedictorian Scholarship Fund - $500 award
    For Whitmore Lake High School valedictorian.

Ann Arbor Educational Foundation Scholarships
For information on creating a scholarship, please contact Foundation staff.

  • Yolanda BELL Memorial Scholarship - $400 minimum. For a student with an IEP who plans to attend college or other type of post-school training
  • Rick BURGESS Jazz Scholarship - $1,000. Junior or senior jazz band student dedicated to the art and creation of jazz music
  • Dorothy M. RUSSELL Scholarship - $1,000. For a graduating senior who plans to attend college and major in education
  • Lisa Ann GALLAGHER Memorial Scholarship - $1,000. For a graduating female student planning to attend college.
  • Joseph J. KEELEY Memorial Scholarship  - $100. For a graduating senior who excels in academics and athletics (swimming, water polo or softball). here is not a student application process. Selection is made by a committee.
  • Kent D. OVERBEY Scholarship - $_00 minimum, amount varies. For a graduating male senior and member of the cross country team.
  • Donald E. SIMONS, Jr. Memorial Award - up to $_00. For a student-athlete on the basketball or football team needing assistance with participation fees


Taylor CALHOUN Memorial Awards
  • For Huron High School students, these awards are to recognize special members of the cheerleading squad, the women’s varsity tennis and soccer teams in honor of Taylor Elizabeth-Blair Calhoun. There are no student application processes for these awards. Selection is made by the cheerleading and team coaches.
  • Taylor Calhoun Cheerleading Award - $300 - for a cheerleader of 2 seasons
  • Taylor Calhoun Sunshine Awards - $300 each - for 2 student athletes, one each from the Women’s Soccer and Tennis Teams
  • Taylor Calhoun Individual Assistance Awards - up to $_000 total – Award amounts vary to enhance the high school experience for students in need.  There is no student application process.  Selection is made by teacher and coach referral to student counselors.

Alpha Phi Alpha - Theta Zeta Lambda Chapter

For the first time on record, Alpha Phi Alpha - Theta Zeta Lambda Chapter will award up to seven $1000 scholarships to deserving high-school seniors planning to attend college in the upcoming year. Strong candidates will have demonstrated improved self-esteem, academic performance, social awareness, problem-solving and decision-making skills during their high-school careers.
