Leadership & Mentoring programs allow students to build skills and develop connections with our Community. While we can not make recommendations about specific programs, our students have shared that these programs have been beneficial in their development. All programs listed here are no cost to the students involved.
Kappa League It takes a village to raise a child and a committed team to lead this dynamic program. Kappa League is a program for the educational, occupational and social guidance of male students in grades 6th-12th. It was designed to help young men grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor. Website: http://www.natlkappaleague.org/index.php
Midnight Golf Program The Midnight Golf Program (MGP) is a 30-week empowerment and mentoring experience that teaches life skills including financial literacy, college preparation, community activism, as well as, learning to play golf. It is a program that makes a positive impact in the lives of the participants. Since 2001, more than 2000 young people joined the Midnight Golf Program, 1700 plus completed the 30 week learning experience with nearly 1600 students admitted to or graduated from more than 100 different colleges and universities. There are currently 260 participants in the Detroit area, Michigan. Through the training and experiences the participants become empowered and socially responsible young adults prepared to maximize their potential and appreciate the game of golf. Wolverine Pathways The University of Michigan Wolverine Pathways program is a free, year-round program that partners with the families, schools, and communities of Detroit, Southfield, and Ypsilanti. Students must live within the boundaries of these school districts (excluding Lincoln Consolidated). My Brother's Keeper President Obama launched My Brother’s Keeper in February 2014 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color and to ensure all youth can reach their full potential. In 2015 the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBK Alliance) was launched, inspired by My Brother’s Keeper, to scale and sustain this mission. In late 2017, MBK Alliance became an initiative of the Obama Foundation. Within the Obama Foundation, MBK Alliance focuses on building safe and supportive communities for boys and young men of color where they feel valued and have clear pathways to opportunity.
