What EXACTLY is a School Counselor?

School Counselors;
  • are highly qualified in Guidance & Counseling having earned a Master's Degree or higher education in our profession and maintaining required certifications. Your Scarlett School Counselors are also certified teachers!
  • believe in lifelong learning and demonstrate our commitment to this belief by pursuing ongoing training  through College Education/Classes, AAPS Professional Development, Professional Organizations and Conferences, Workshops, etc. . . in specialty areas such as Post-Secondary Planning, College Counseling, Specific Social/Emotional Issues (see resource pages) etc. . .
  • Here to help students in their Personal Wellness journey in any and every way! We provide academic planning services, "brief intervention" mental health services, and school support. We have many resources for additional support and if we can't do something, we can help get you to someone who can. .

What does a School Counselor do?
  • Help students register for necessary classes to meet graduation requirements. (schedule)
  • Help students, parents and teachers identify strategies that support a student's success at school. (learning style, study tips, additional supports)
  • Help students plan for High School and beyond! (College, careers, life goals, EDPs)
  • Helps students with all areas of Personal Wellness; social & emotional learning about your own feelings, behaviors, and getting along well with others.

About us. . . the Scarlett Nation!

Mitchell-Scarlett is a K-8 campus that draws upon the power of a diverse local and global community to support the development of inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who contribute to the formation of a more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Defined by: High academic standards innovative curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate standards of instruction, and meaningful assessments. It is our goal to create a safe environment in which your student will develop academic, social, emotional, and global skills, in order to become an independent, problem-solving, and caring world citizen. Our collaborative community inspires students' growth as they become reflective life-long learners.

Our goal is and has always been to inspire, support, and empower all individuals to live, learn, and work in a way that creates opportunity for personal growth and joy, meaningful contributions to the community, and environmentally sustainable practices, and to personally set an example as such. We hope to assist all individuals in achieving the intellectual, technical, personal, emotional, and social skills necessary for success in reaching goals in an increasingly complex and global society. Above all, we care about “kids” and represent our #ScarlettNation greatest integrity.
